James Heisig is an American philosopher and author who is primarily known for his work in the fields of philosophy of religion and East Asian philosophy. He is a professor of philosophy at Nagoya University in Japan and has published numerous books on a range of subjects, including Zen Buddhism, Christianity, and the philosophy of language. He is perhaps best known for his work on the Japanese writing system, which includes the popular book "Remembering the Kanji" as well as several other related titles. Heisig has a BA in philosophy from St. Louis University and a PhD in philosophy from the University of Freiburg.
